The Devil's Arithmetic

Taking a short detour to read this...recommended by my 13-year-old son. He seldom has much to say about school-assigned books, so I am looking forward to beginning. More on this later...

Just Throw It Away!

Seems like many of of us are concerned about the environment more than ever...Earth Day, clean air, renewable energy -- so why do companies keep coming up with new ways to fill the landfills?

A few of my favorites:

Single-Serve Coffee makers and their evil pods...you know Tassimo, Keurig, Senseo & others. You just insert the special pod or disc of your favorite brew - virtually all the major hot beverage manufacturers make them - press a button, open the brew mechanism, remove the used pod --- discard.

Those stupid Dixie take-out coffee cups that you use at home...may be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Save money. Make your coffee at home. Then put it in a disposable cup, complete with plastic lid, so you can take your tasty bev to work and throw it away when you're finished. Repeat. Also, one of my top ten most annoying commercials of all time.

A new one, single use hand towels! From Kleenex: "People in the U.S. dry their hands on cloth bathroom towels approximately 200 billion times a year. The CDC guidelines for hand washing recommends hand drying with a single-use towel. Families have not had a practical alternative to traditional cloth hand towels in their home bathrooms… until now."

I'm so glad we can forget about teaching our children proper hygiene and instead, throw away those 200 billion Kleenex disposable hand towels! Yay!

Cloth Bathroom Hand Towels
My personal favorite: Sunsweet Ones individually wrapped prunes! "We select the very best California prunes for our individually wrapped, Sunsweet Ones. So when you need an irresistibly delicious snack you can take anywhere, reach for Sunsweet Ones. A great snack for all ages: Always fresh, always the best!"

INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED PRUNES?

Of course there are really too many to mention...and I must admit, I'm not giving up my toothbrush anytime soon. These newbies just caught my eye. I won't be buying any of these products, and I may just give you hell if I see them in your grocery cart! Individually wrapped prunes. Hmmmph.
